The premarital examination is mandatory for all civil marriages and will allow you to have the certificate which is valid for 2 months. (Art. 63 of the Civil Code and Art L.153 of the Public Health Code) Its objectives are:

-Informing the couple

It involves 2 consultations for both partners in the couple

1st Consultation

It includes::

-A detailed examination of the couple, mainly on medical history, the notion of blood transfusion and vaccination status.

-A full clinical examination is mandatory, with a pelvic examination and Pap smear if needed

-The examination prescription is MANDATORY

-For Women: Blood type, Rh, toxoplasmosis and rubella serology testing

-For Men: Blood type, Rh

-Other tests may be prescribed if the doctor deems necessary.

2nd Consultation

At the second consultation, the first step consists of submitting results in a personal way to comply with medical confidentiality. Women who are not immunized for rubella should be vaccinated. It is also the moment to inform the couple on healthy lifestyles, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy or contraception.

Finally the premarital certificate, previously withdrawn from the civil register is delivered personally to each of the intending spouses.
