Definition: The purpose of emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy after possible fertilizing from intercourse.

Means:

- 3RD generation progestogen NORLEVO: This is only a progestin, levonorgestrel.

Oral intake of a tablet in one take, as soon as possible and within 72 hours after intercourse risk

A classic pill can be taken the day after the first one.

Bleeding must occur within three weeks, if not a pregnancy test will be conducted.

This pill is widely available in pharmacies without prescription. Free for the under aged and reimbursed at 65% for those of age with prescription. There is no contraindication.

The earlier the tablet is taken the greater the effectiveness :

95% if taken within 24 hours.

85% if taken within 24 to 48 h.

58% if taken within 72 hours.

-Estrogen plus progestin Tetragynon: composed of 0, 05 mg ethinylestradiol and 0.25 mg of levonorgestrel.

Oral intake of 4 tablets. 2 must be taken within 72 hours after intercourse and the other 2 will be taken 12 hours later.

Issued only on medical prescription and reimbursed by social security.

The contraindications are the same for the pill Estrogen.

- IUD: IUD insertion within 7 days (time needed for implantation). The failure rate is 0.1%. .

- The ulipristal acetate (UPA) is an emergency contraceptive, marketed under the name Ellaone ®. It is effective up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse. In practice, take one 30mg tablet , at the latest within 120 hours after unprotected intercourse. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours after taking the tablet, the woman can take another one.
