Why do I have pain in my lower stomach during sex?

This genital pain called dyspareunia is common (present in 5-30% of women).

There are local treatable causes

-vulvovaginitis

-vulvar dermatitis

-congenital malformation of the hymen

-vaginal stenosis after childbirth: episiotomy scar or tear Local

-antibiotic or antifungal

-corticosteroids or surgery

-Surgery

-self-massage and healing cream, or surgery

deep dyspareunia

-pelvic inflammatory disease

-Endometriosis

-adenomyosis

-the Masters and Allen syndrome (obstetric laceration of uterine ligament), the uterine retroversion

-sequelae of surgery (including hysterectomy) or radiation

-antibiotics or surgery (laparoscopic)

-hormone (LHRH analog in) or surgery

-hormone (progestin)

-Surgery

-specific treatment

These causes are sought in a consultation, by a pelvic examination done gently and, if appropriate, microbiological sampling and pelvic ultrasound. In all cases, analgesics are useful, as well as lubricants to facilitate intercourse

However the most common cause is psychosomatic. A psychological treatment by a sex therapist if necessary, may be useful, particularly in cases of depression or marital conflict.
