Genital prolapse is the abnormal protrusion of pelvic organs lining the walls of the vagina.
We distinguish:
|Type of prolapse |Organ concerned ||cystocele |Bladder ||the hysterocele |uterus ||rectocele |rectum ||the enterocele |the cul-de-sac (the top of the vagina) ||the colpocele |the bottom of the vagina |
Treatment:
It depends on the stage of the prolapse on clinical examination and any associated urinary disorders (sought by a urodynamic examination):-surgery: it is proposed in case of real discomfort The two techniques are:-intervention by perineal approach (with or without hysterectomy associated)-the promontofixation: laparotomy or laparoscopy (with or without associated hysterectomy) - several rehabilitation sessions sphincterotomy-perineal (including in cases of surgical treatment)-local hormonal treatment with estrogen-pessaries: These rings are used to retain silicone bodies pending surgery. They are associated with estrogen therapy limiting local vaginal discharge.
