Vulvar pruritus is very common and possible causes are numerous:

Acute causes:

-vestibulitis

-bartholinitis

-warts

-mycosiqie infection, bacterial or viral infections, including recurrent herpes

Chronic causes:

-lichen sclerosus or plan

-seborrheic dermatitis

-Psoriasis

More rarely, the lesion may be cancer either non-invasive (Paget's disease, Bowen's disease, Bowenoid papulosis) or invasive (squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma).

You should see your doctor for treatment that will relieve the cause (antistaminique, topical corticosteroids, anti-infective or local estrogen). You should also keep up local hygiene and use of lubricants during intercourse.

In case of a suspicious lesion, a biopsy may be necessary, and depending on the result, will or will not need a surgical medical- treatment.
